Convert Canon XF300 HD MXF Files to Apple ProRes Codec and Load Them to FCP X

Have you ever been disappointed when you failed to import Canon XF300 recorded videos to FCP X. Well, it is not the Final Cut Pro X’s fault. In fact, even FCP 7 does not work with the Canon XF codec. The XF300 (XF305/XF105) utilizes Canon’s XF Codec – a file-based MPEG-2 compression with an MXF File Wrapper that ensures the widest compatibility with existing industry infrastructure, metadata and non-linear editing (NLE) systems. If you want to edit MXF files in video editing tools natively, you can try Adobe Premiere CS5. Or you can also choose to convert the Canon MXF to ProRes 422 which works well with Final Cut Pro X. Here’s a detailed workaround for getting Canon MXF shootings into FCP X.

Preparation
1. Connect the Canon XF300 to Mac and transfer MXF files to hard drive.
2. Download the HD MXF Video Converter for Mac and install it to your Mac computer.
